Making companies future-proof

Making companies future-proof

May 15, 2026

A welcoming culture as a success factor: Openness, diversity, and a strong welcoming culture are becoming increasingly important for companies – especially in times of skilled labor shortages. This is precisely the focus of the online workshop offered by the Welcome Center of the Görlitz district.
On May 18, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., companies will have the opportunity to learn how they can future-proof their organization and simultaneously send a clear signal of openness in the region. The workshop is aimed at companies that want to successfully integrate international professionals and actively develop their corporate culture.

Participation takes place online and offers practical insights into modern corporate culture, employer attractiveness and sustainable employee retention.

The employers' conference took place on April 23, 2026, at the Siemens ENERGY Innovation Campus in Görlitz. The event was organized by the Federal Employment Agency, the Görlitz Job Center, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), and the Chamber of Skilled Crafts. This format is held twice a year – once in Görlitz and once in the southern part of the district – and combines expert presentations, practical workshops, and diverse networking opportunities for regional companies.

Under this year's motto "Shaping the world of work: fair, open, future-proof", the focus was on corporate culture, recognizing and retaining potential, overcoming perceived barriers and strengthening employee loyalty.

The participants started with two mandatory workshops:

Convincing employers through company culture: This session focused on recognizing and showcasing the company's strengths – whether in job postings or in daily interactions. Practical "cultural hacks" provided tips on how to strategically shape and further develop company culture.

Job descriptions as "bait" for good personnel: Participants received ideas on how to design job postings to attract the right applicants. The use of artificial intelligence to optimize job postings was also discussed.

In addition, guests could choose to attend an optional workshop:

Recruiting foreign skilled workers and trainees: Opportunities and ways to attract qualified international professionals.

Employment of people with severe disabilities: Recognizing potential, overcoming barriers, enabling sustainable integration into the company.

The breaks provided ample time for networking. The Welcome Center provided information about the planned Welcome Guide Workshop, which will be held on May 18, 2026, and will be preceded by an online information session. The 2026 Employers' Conference demonstrated once again the importance of regional exchange, new ideas, and practical solutions for creating a fair, open, and future-proof working environment in the Görlitz district.

Finding each other through action and doing

Finding each other through action and doing

The Welcome Center Görlitz visited Rabryka on April 9, 2026, and got to know a place that shows how arrival, participation and networking can work in practice.

Rabryka sees itself as an open center for youth and socio-cultural activities – a space for experimentation, participation, and encounters. For newcomers, especially international professionals, it offers an accessible way to make connections and find their way around the local community. Access is intentionally kept simple: many activities can be attended without registration, fostering encounters naturally "through doing and creating.".

The range of activities is broad: from open workshops (maker spaces), creative formats, and game nights to everyday meeting places like the "Kitchen for All" (Küfa), the garden café, or bar nights. This is complemented by workshops and cultural and social events such as the quiz lab, which is occasionally held in English. This diversity appeals to different interests and brings together people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

An important component is the international women's café in the "Frauenland" project, which offers a safe space for exchange, especially for migrant women. Connections are also formed through shared interests – regardless of language or origin – through gardening together in the community garden of the environmental education project "Zusammen.wachsen" (Growing Together), cooking in the international women's café, or for the community kitchen.

A particularly successful example is the story of Thang Trinh: As an international expert, he came to the Rabryka through the garden project, contributed his design skills, and eventually developed his own ideas – today he runs his own mobile cooking stand, "SoulReis". Such developments demonstrate the potential inherent in open meeting places.

For skilled workers from Germany and abroad, the emerging networks offer particular added value: In cooperation with regional partners, the Welcome Team, and companies, targeted opportunities for interaction are created. This allows not only for social contacts to develop, but also for bridges to the job market.

The conversation makes it clear what challenges many immigrants face – such as a lack of language practice, complex bureaucratic processes, or uncertainties within the education and childcare system. Rabryka offers guidance, informal support, and above all, a place where participation is immediately possible.

From the county's perspective, it is therefore an important building block of functioning welcome structures: a social anchor point that makes integration tangible, open and communal, and accessible in everyday life.
